Frequently asked questions
Do all affordable health plans offer dental benefits?
Some affordable health plans offer dental benefits but not all of them. You can pick a health plan with or without dental benefits. If you pick a health plan without dental benefits, you can still get a separate dental plan. Our licensed health insurance representatives can help you find a plan that offers dental coverage and/or help you get a separate dental plan if your plan doesn’t offer dental benefits.
How can I get a separate dental plan, If my health plan doesn’t offer dental benefits?
If your health plan doesn’t offer dental benefits, you can get a separate dental plan at a low monthly cost. Our licensed health insurance representatives can help you. You’ll pay a separate monthly premium. This is in addition to the premium you pay for your health plan.
Is dental coverage an essential health benefit for adults and children?
Under the affordable care act, dental coverage is an essential health benefit for children but not for adults. If you’re getting health coverage for someone 18 or younger, dental coverage will be available for your child as part of a health plan. Dental coverage isn’t an essential health benefit for adults, so health plans don’t have to offer adult dental coverage.
Can I cancel my dental coverage and still keep my health coverage?
It depends. If you have a separate dental plan, you can cancel any time while keeping your health plan. But if you’re enrolled in a health plan with dental coverage, you can’t remove dental coverage from your health plan. But, you could change health plans (with or without dental coverage) during the yearly Open Enrollment Period or outside Open Enrollment, if you qualify for a Special Enrollment Period.
